Knowing the tools and skills you need to build a successful career after finishing school can feel daunting and overwhelming. To help School of Social Work students prepare for today’s social work and human services workplace, we’re proud to present Career Forward, a yearlong series of free workshops about proactively and continuously managing your professional career journey.
Open to students in Portland State’s BSW, CFS, MSW and Ph.D. programs, these fourteen sessions will cover everything from busting networking myths and developing your online presence to interviewing practice and understanding loan forgiveness programs. Part of the School’s emerging Career Forward initiative to help our broader community build career skills and expertise, the series’ goal is to build community, familiarity, and confidence with the job search process for all of our students.
Led by Marina Barcelo and Lisa Hawash, "Self Advocacy in the Workplace" will focus on different perspectives on professionalism, effective communication and conflict resolution, equity and inclusion in the workplace, and the art of self-advocacy for professional success.
